O
ur Best Brokerages issue mesmerizes me. One reason is relentless
curiosity: If you want to absorb as much as you can about land as
an asset class, learn the lessons in these pages. The other reason
is just as telling: my lifelong fascination with America, this land that I love.
But there's more to this issue than dollars and cents and market updates.
Listen closely, and you will hear the voices of people who are smitten by
lands that they love. If you have but a moment to spare, I implore you to
read Helen Groves's letter on page 13. Then do yourself a favor: Find yet
another moment and read it again. That's the good stuff. Savor it. Share it.
Next, consider the counsel of Henry Hall Sr. on page 20. Anyone who
owns a business should ingest his four-sentence admonition and then
abide by his credo. Success will follow. Success must follow.
Finally, tip your hat to Jeremy Stanton, whose story begins on page 54.
This classically trained chef shunned a five-star career searing foie gras in
cramped kitchens and instead devotes his energies to cooking farm-fresh
foods over a fire in the great outdoors. Sounds a tad simplistic, doesn't it?
That, my friend, is why it's so powerful.
