10 The LandReport | W I N T E R 2 0 1 5 LANDREPORT.COM W elcome to our grand finale – the biggest issue of a very big year. So many thoughts run through my mind as I page through the 2015 Land Report 100. I hope you find yourself faced with the same affliction. To those of us who love land and see landownership as a vital American trait, this edition of our publication is something to celebrate. It's important to give the families who have stewarded their holdings for centuries their due. The heirs of David Pingree, Dan Waggoner, Captain Richard King, George Hearst, and Burk Burnett (among others) have defied the odds. Their legacies are still intact, still ongoing enterprises, still similar in so many respects to what their founders once beheld. What an achievement! Of equal importance is to study the stories of more recent pioneers. Take a closer look at the evolving legacies of leading landowners such as John Malone, Ted Turner, Jeff Bezos, and Louis Bacon. These landowners are devoting substantial resources to bettering life on their land – and yours. Go ahead – send me an email and tell me who you single out while reading this list. I look forward to hearing from you. Presenting the stories of America's leading landowners. Land Report 100 E r i c O' K e e f e editor@landreport.com Editor's Note RICHARD FIELD LEVINE
