Whether it be Farmland Partners' $55 million acquisition of Wilder Farms in Illinois, a 295,000-acre timber transaction in Arkansas and Texas, or Ted Turner's sale of the Bluestem Ranch to the Osage, the asset class known as land continues to thrive in this country. But it was the sale of Australia's S. Kidman &  Co that proved to be the showstopper, a mega-million-dollar deal deemed so critical that it required approval of the Australian Treasury. — The Editors OPENING SPREAD: Much like the American West, the Australian outback features a landscape that humbles those who dare to challenge it.
