10 The LandReport | W I N T E R 2 0 1 7 LANDREPORT.COM M ore than a decade ago, that guy on my left and I founded this magazine. No, not that guy. I'm talking about Eddie Lee Rider, not T. Boone Pickens. The best part is, a decade ago, I can distinctly recall being denied an interview by Boone's wily gatekeepers. Clint Eastwood? You bet. Tom Brokaw? Sure thing. T. Boone? Dream on. Five years later, and Eric and Eddie are doing grip-and-grins with the Oracle of Oil at his out-of-this-world ranch in the Texas Panhandle. You know you've made it when ... Boone Pickens is your host. It's time for a real-time status update. Turn to page 21. You'll soon be reading Boone's own account of why he's selling his beloved Mesa Vista Ranch. I get a catch in my throat just thinking about it. Thank you, Boone, for your friendship, your counsel, and the many times you've shared your magnificent ranch. Eddie and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our colleagues, our contributors, and our advertisers. Your support and encouragement have seen us through highs and lows. And to you, our readers? Get ready for our best issue yet!
