Editor's Note The Best of Times Holiday greetings from The Land Report I E r i c O' K e e f e editor@landreport.com 10 TheLandReport | WINTER 2012 JOHN BONICK chose this wonderful photograph for my note to you because it symbolizes so much to me. During our October visit to the Jordan Vineyard & Winery, John Bonick took a whole slew of shots — at the chateau, in the vines, and upstairs at the hangar where John Jordan parks his Piper Cub Sport. Yet this one — a quiet spot shot only apparent from a secret corner of the chateau — says it all. For the previous hour or so, eight of us had crowded round that table, yakking about our busy day and marveling at the sumptuous setting. The Jordan family owns some 1,100 acres, yet only 100 are planted in vines. To their credit, the remaining 1,000 are given equal care and attention. They are true stewards. In the heart of this private park, Chef Todd Knoll and his staff set this remarkable table and served a fabulous luncheon. True to form, a 2010 Russian River Valley Chardonnay and a 2007 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon only enhanced the experience. I will long remember that bright sunny day, full of wine, food, and friends. As 2012 comes to a close, my hope is that you too find yourself on a special piece of property, one whose defining characteristic is your close proximity to family and friends. LANDREPORT.COM
